Okay, so there is a positive way of looking at this. Basically, we made three upgrades (and got rid of some draft picks - draft picks, as I mentioned, are useless to the Rangers. They are what we give to other teams so that they can draft good players that we can then try to acquire). We upgraded Kalinin to Morris, which is clearly good. We upgraded Dawes to Avery, which is, I think, good. And we upgraded Prucha to Antropov, which most people would see as, at least, not a terrible thing. Obviously, it's that last one I disagree with - Antropov, while he's huge and technically under 30, has been consistently described as inconsistent, and is 29. Prucha, while 26, no matter what is said about him, is not arriving in Phoenix to thoughts of "the coach will have to light a fire under him."
Whatever, the point is that given Sather's track record recently, spending a trade deadline on giving up some draft picks, making a defensive upgrade, a left wing upgrade (I know Avery doesn't really count as trade deadline, but it sure feels like it), and a right wing questionable-grade, even if that RW is your favorite Ranger, is not nearly as bad as it could be.
Even if you do now think that Petr Prucha is the next Alexei Kovalev.
Overall it's not a bad day, I guess. Unless you ask me to look at the Morris trade individually, before which we had Antropov, Avery, Dawes, AND Prucha. But you're not asking me to do that, are you?
Okay, fine. Let's Go Rangers. But the blog keeps its name. And I'm secretly rooting against the Bruins tomorrow night.
