First Post - All Business

hello i started a blog like tim but less drunk.

I may do a Rangers post-lockout retrospective of "how we got here," over time, later, but let's be honest, I could just as soon completely abandon this project after 3 days. So, today's news, about a Vogue intern.

That's right, yesterday at noon, Sean Avery was placed on re-entry waivers. What does that mean? Sean Avery, up until then, was a Dallas Star. You may not have known that, since he was playing for the Hartford Wolfpack, the Rangers' AHL affiliate.

Let me back up.

Avery was a Star, then he got sent to behavioral counseling because he made a locker-room joke in front of a distinctly non-locker-room microphone. He recently came BACK from counseling, "reformed," and the Stars (with whom he understandably is not currently getting along) sent him to the minors. Now, the Stars, don't HAVE an AHL affiliate, so they sent him to any old club they could find: ours. To recap, still a Star, playing for the Wolfpack in the AHL until they call him up.

...or (duh) not. Yesterday at noon, as I told you very recently, the Stars placed Avery on re-entry waivers, which basically says "We'll pay half your salary if some other team is willing to pick your sorry ass up and pay the other half." Teams get to claim him from the bottom of the standings up. So far, no bites. In fact, the Rangers are allowed to claim him as of noon today, which seems to have just passed. The Rangers, as of 5 minutes ago as I write this, can claim Avery for their own at half-price. If putting him on the Wolfpack wasn't enough of a hint, and if Slats himself actually coming out of his cave to comment on it wasn't enough of a hint, the Rangers also sent Mark Bell, whom they picked up from Toronto less than a week ago, down to Hartford yesterday, as if to make room for someone. Yes, Virginia, Sean Avery will come back to Broadway. We just have to sit back and wait for it to become official. Next time, on "Play Petr Prucha," what does the prodigal's second coming actually mean for this teetering team. What's in store for John's Tortorella-gades? Tune in next...whenever I feel like it.
