I finished posting my most recent post (which is exactly this), then came and noticed this comment. And I totally agree - ties are fine, I don't need them, I just need points to not be based on a dumb skills competition. And I also need games to be worth the same number of points as each other, overall!atarnowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17337827687691534982noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7495246464792621074.post-62096543431896728812011-03-14T17:14:49.839-04:002011-03-14T17:14:49.839-04:00It's not Friday, but I'm about ready for n...It's not Friday, but I'm about ready for next weekend already, so I spent time on NHL.com and putting stats into Excel.

(They should really let me export them as a spreadsheet)

Anyway, based on your standings breakdown and shootout comments, I was curious what things would look like in the old days. So this is the result of that, the last column OP is what the old points would have been:

http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/5770/oldstandings.jpg

Note that the 5:00 4on4 is the sole thing to break a tie, it's basically (points - OT losses - SO wins). The 4on4 isn't the thing that bothers me so much about OT nowadays anyway, at least when compared to the shootout and the extra point. I'd rather it ended like this with a crapload of ties very defensive OT periods than the way we currently have it (hell, you don't want ties? Give me some 4on4 then some 3on3 before we declare a tie.. I don't love ties so much as hate a stupid method of generating points).

I also had to switch the colors NHL.com uses for the conferences. I'll be damned if I'm going to put NYR on a red fucking background.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03121869356157795589noreply@blogger.com
